Knowledge Meets Curiosity
Brazil was the only country in the western world to abolish slavery. In 1888 an estimated 4 million slaves had been transferred from Africa to Brazil. During the Atlantic slave trade era, Brazil received more African slaves than any other country. An estimated 4.9 million slaves from Africa were brought to Brazil during the period from 1501 to 1866.

Carnival in Brazil is when people come together to party and listen to samba music. This all started in a catholic church that was built by slaves. They bring men and women together to bring their beliefs back. They danced to call back the spirits they knew before (Darlington). We can still see African culture in samba music, costumes and street parties (Kocandrle). Its important for us to know their beliefs because some people still do it today. Its almost as if you want people to know your belief to respect it.
